Comeback Medvedev Claims First Championship in 882 Days

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's first title following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent saved 4 early chances in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
